I tried to do

ShowTempHourglass();

ImageEnView1->IO->Params->ImageIndex = 0;
ImageEnView1->IO->LoadFromFile(opniedlg1->Filename);

but the cursor does not change

BCB must handle the interface destruction differently. Best to avoid using.

What version of BCB do you use?

How about if you wrap your code in:

  Screen.Cursor := crHourglass;
  ...
  Screen.Cursor := crDefault;
